365Playground Donates New Upcycle the Gyres Society Website
365Playground recently donated and developed a new website for partner Upcycle the Gyres Society (Upgyres). In support and as a contribution to our belief in the Upgyres vision of clean oceans and renewable and sustainable energy, we donated this website to help promote and build awareness of their ongoing mission to make the ocean a plastic-free zone.
Our vision for the new site was an elegant, simple, informative, intuitive and visual new face of Upgyres.
Upgyres’ purpose is to inspire, promote, and facilitate making the necessary investment in technology and operations, to cleanup marine plastic garbage at high seas through the construction and operation of the worlds’ first High Seas/year-round Floating Eco-Research Upcycling Facility.
Regulation, taxation, and banning of specific plastic products are not enough to dilute the fact that marine plastic pollution will remain in our oceans from hundreds, to one thousand years; marine cleanup efforts need to start with stopping the plastics from going into the ocean in the first place.
The definition of the word Upcycle is to reuse (discarded objects or materials) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original. For example, the opportunity to upcycle trash, or turn it into more valuable products, is enormous.
Upgyres proposes that it is both possible and necessary to clean up marine plastic garbage and convert it into valuable products such as light crude oil, methanol, their derivatives and intermediates.
